Blog Summary

WordPress really was a great tool to help me learn more about blogging. I really liked the links. I feel like the tool links were more effective because when you click on the link it can take you to another page that is similar to the blog topic. The sharing tool was a great way to put your blog out there and get more views.

I would want to improve on making my blogs stand out more than other blogs. I want to include more variety of health concerns and things people love to hear. I feel that learning how to blog helps me get one step ahead because I now know how to do more than I ever had. This experience will look good on my resume for jobs to look at. I know can use these tools that I learned from class to help a future employer with their social media. I can now make apps, blogs and videos.

Fast and Easy Fish Tacos

I recently started using my cookbooks I got a long time ago. I just got tired of cooking and eating the same things. Another reason to start cooking more is so I go out to eat a lot less. Watching what I eat is a big concern to me since I’m making healthy lifestyle choices. One of my favorite cook books is 300 Calories Or Less! and it comes with a food diary so you can keep up with logging your daily diet. There is a bunch of great recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and snacks.

I made the fish tacos with avocado salsa but instead of using some ingredients in the book I came up with my own. This meal is quick and easy to make with only about 5-10 minutes cook time.

Serving size 2

Ingredients:

  • Fish
  • Olive Oil
  • Tony Chachere’s More Spice seasoning
  • Corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1/2 Lime
  • 3 Grape tomatoes
  • Organic baby spinach
  • Crumbled feta cheese
  • Mark’s Salsa (med)
  • Tortilla chips
  1. Defrost the 14 ounce sole fillet fish. Once the fish is ready add Tony’s seasoning to it and put it in the pan with olive oil. Cook on medium for about 5 minutes or until slightly crispy.
  2. Cut up the avocado and tomatoes then mix them in a bowl with the feta cheese.
  3. To serve, warm the tortilla on the stove, then top them with the fish and add baby spinach, salsa and ingredients in the bowl. Top it off with a squeeze of lime on the tacos. Don’t forget to have a side of chips and salsa. Serve and enjoy!

Training for a Half

Training for a half-marathon is no walk in the park. Running 13.1 miles might seem hard to do but if you already can run up to 3 miles or more than I say you are ready for training. I trained for a half about two years ago and my race was at White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. There are many different ways to train but main things is to just get out there and run. Since this was my first time running a half I decided to do it with a partner; I asked my cousin to join me.

You can have a friend join you on your runs or bring your dog so that the long runs won’t be so lonely. Usually that have groups you can join that run together and train for different events. I never go to the track to run because running in circles can get boring. I usually run through neighborhoods or on trails.

Before you start you should find some races you would like to run in and set a date so you have enough training time. Find a great training guide you can follow that works with you. I found a perfect half marathon training guide that works with me on Pinterest You should start running at least four times a week and one day you should cross train. Cross train could be swimming, lifting or biking.

just remember a few things:

  • Eat clean
  • Have proper shoes
  • Stick to the plan

Zumba to a new lifestyle

I always felt like a workout shouldn’t be a boring routine. I tried Zumba with some friends and loved it. With Zumba, a workout isn’t even a workout but more like a dance party. Zumba classes are offered in studios inside of gyms. You will have to sign up for classes through a fitness center and depending on what gym you go to will determine the price.  The classes play loud, upbeat music and is usually always with a group.  Regardless of your level of fitness, Zumba will emphasize movement to the music.

I love to do Zumba with a friend and all you really need is some music and open area to dance. I actually remembered some of the dance moves to certain songs, but you can always make up your own moves. You can also buy the Zumba DVDs and workout at home instead of driving to the gym. Some good benefits include:

  • Calorie and fat burning:  In a Zumba class the average person will burn around 600 to 1,000 calories. The class can go from slow movement to fast pace which can burn some calories. Fitness moves are incorporated in Zumba dances with set of push-ups, or doing squats with some high jumps.
  • Mood boosting:  A good way to get rid of stress is to go to Zumba class to release it all. The upbeat music brings out a type of vibe in the room that will favor the release of those  mood endorphin. Especially if you do it with a friend.
  • It’s social: You will meet some fun people in Zumba class. Usually the classes will be two or three times a week. Bringing a friend or family member will also help interaction and motivation.

Detox your mind and body

Detox is a process in which a person makes lifestyle changes to clear their body of toxins. This is the core of health and healing. When I’m talking about a detox that doesn’t mean a no eating cleanse. Eating healthy foods will help the process rather than eating junk food. I suggest a vegan diet but if that is not for you there are other options. I usually do a detox for about a week and wont do it again till the next month.

Detox tea- My favorite type of detox tea is Yogi Healthy Cleansing Formula. It’s caffeine free which is good for when you want to drink the tea at night. This tea has a total of 18 ingredients making a spicy blend.  I usually drink my detox tea every night after dinner before bed for about two weeks.

Baths- I can’t really think of anything more relaxing than a hot bubble bath. Not only will a detox bath feel good, but it will help improve skin problems and release toxins form the body. Fill the tube with warm water, add Dr. Treal’s detox salt, SheaMoisture African Water Mint and Ginger detox bubble bath and body wash. To make it even more relaxing add some candles around the tube.

Meditating- Meditation and working out help maintain a healthy body. By exercising you release sweat that helps you release toxins through your skin. I like meditating and doing yoga because it helps clear your mind and you feel stress free. Stress can be as toxic to your health as chemicals. The body can start to function poorly when stress is occurring in the trouble mind. I suggest at least ten minutes of silence or play calm music while just sitting or laying down. Make sure nothing is on the mind at all when you are at this state. Even yoga can be apart of you meditation.

Clean eating is good for the soul

Not only do I focus on my workouts I also focus my health on what I consume in my body. I feel like if you aren’t eating the right nutrition your body needs then the workouts would be pointless. My eating habits changed dramatically once I started college. I didn’t want to do it as one of those diets you start and end it less than a month. I wanted to make the choices I ate a lifestyle.

When searching for foods at the grocery store I make sure to always look at the labels. Try to stay away from toxic foods, this means highly processed foods that can harm your health. The few things to look out for on the ingredients label will be corn syrup, white processed foods, artificial sweeteners, palms oil, MSG, trans fat, and the list goes on. Most foods I look for are organic, non GMO, and vegan on the labels.

I also tried being vegan for a week with a friend; just to see if I could do it and it wasn’t that hard for me. Giving up your favorite foods shouldn’t be hard because their is always ways to supplement them. I started following different blogs and people on Instagram that were based on vegans and healthy recipes. One blog that really inspired me to try this new lifestyle was Well and Full, this blog has different recipes and is updated regularly.

Hike To New Adventures

Would you rather take a walk, run, or try something different? How about trying something more adventurous instead of the normal routine.  Instead of doing the boring walk down the street I decided to take a stroll into nature. Hiking is now something I love to do.

Not only does it benefits the body in different ways but you also get other perks out of hiking. Some of those perks are nice views, fresh air, and the sound and smell of nature. I suggest starting slow and go on small hikes and then work up to the difficult 3+ mile hikes. The  pictures on here are taken at one of my favorite hiking place, Purgatory Creek in San Marcos. It is also dog friendly as long as they have a leash.

Safe Hiking Tips

Bring a buddy. Don’t go alone for the first time if you are unfamiliar with a trail. It’s best to go with a friend or a group, that way they can assist if you get hurt or lost.

Know before you go. Check the weather before you go out and make sure you go at a reasonable time so that it won’t get dark on you when you’re out there. Make sure you know the trail very well by looking at the map or trail marks.
